Teach Children Disaster Safety! (Education) - Teach Masters of Disaster preparedness program to students so they are safe at home, or when storms, tornadoes, floods, or other disasters strike. Training, transportation, and materials are provided. Preferred candidate must like to work with grades K through 5, be willing to travel, and have a valid drivers license. Time commitment of 4 to 8 hours during the week.
Develop Basic Aid Training Program (Education/Health Services) - Introduce 8-10 year-olds to the emergency action steps, Check, Call, Care as well as to basic first aid procedures. An activity book with puzzles and games teaches children how to prevent injuries and what to do in an emergency. Must enjoy children, be available during school hours and/or for after school programs, be willing to travel, and have a valid drivers license. Time commitment of 4 to 8 hours during the week.
Inform the Public (Journalism/Public Affairs) - When disaster strikes, information is critical to safeguard lives and increase community awareness. Do your part by becoming a member of the Disaster Public Affairs Team. Relay information about large and small disasters to news media and the public via phone and social media sites. Requires 8 hours of training, a one year commitment, and the ability to be on call about 1 week every 2 months.
Do you enjoy surfing the internet? (Business Administration/Financial Development) - Research corporate and community leaders and prepare profiles to enable us to engage more community partners. Preferred candidate must work independently; have computer with internet access, and some Excel skill. Time commitment: 4-5 hours per week.
Prepare Your Community For Disaster (Business Administration; Emergency Services)- Help our communities prepare for, prevent, and respond to disasters. Survey community organizations in our 14 county area to determine what services they offer in order to coordinate our disaster response. Also, update our shelter agreements, increase cooperative arrangements, and organize the information into a usable database. This is a great internship for you if you have or want to develop great communication skills, attention to detail, and excel or access skill. Time commitment: 5-10 hours per week or can be separated into two internships.
Organize Special Events (Business Administration) - Events occur throughout the year! You can work independently or with staff and volunteers to organize a special event. Events include Brave Hearts, Real Heroes; March is Red Cross Month; Ride for the Red; September Disaster Preparedness Month; Garden Stroll and the possibility is open for more! Applicant must have initiative, be able to work independently, be organized, and be able to dedicate from 4 to 25 hours per week.
Be the face of the Red Cross (Business Administration) - Learn office management and interpersonal skills while staffing the front desk and answering telephone inquiries. Candidate must be outgoing, organized, respectful, and detail oriented. Time commitment of 8 hours per week.
Show Your Leadership Style (Business Administration; Public Relations; Education; Leadership) - We are looking for a people person to promote the mission of the American Red Cross by organizing a Red Cross Club at UWEC. Complete the paperwork to be a recognized campus club, solicit membership, raise funds, and provide community education at the campus. Our goal is to extend the club into at least one community high school. Preferred candidate must have excellent communication skills, be self-motivated, and have a positive attitude. Time commitment of 2 to 10 hours per week.
Engage volunteers! (Human Resources; Volunteer Management) - Learn everything from recruiting to managing records in this internship. Internship includes attending community fairs and events, computer based record keeping, and all aspects of volunteer intake, management, and separation. Appropriate candidate will be respectful, fair, and a good listener. Time commitment of 4 to 8 hours or more per week.
Rally Fundraisers! (Public Relations/Marketing/Financial Development) - Heroes for the American Red Cross fund raising campaign March through May. Approximate start date in January. Time commitment of 3 to 5 hours per week.
Help Students Support Local Disaster Relief (Public Relations/Marketing/Education) - Develop a program for schools and youth groups to raise funds for local disaster relief. We have the idea, but not the time. You would be responsible for assembling the marketing packets, contacting the schools and groups, and presenting the campaign. Time commitment of 3 to 5 hours per week.
Recognize Our Wonderful Volunteers (Business Administration/Administrative Assistant/Marketing/Special Event) Organize a special event to show volunteers how much we appreciate the donation of their time and talents! Involves securing sponsorships and location, developing a theme, and requesting donations. Successful candidate must be able to 'sell'[ the event to potential donors. Approximate start date in January, although portions could be completed at any time. Anticipated event date of June. Time commitment of 4 to 5 hours per week.
